Luke in SARS Scare

Written by Penny on June 1st, 2003

Saturday 3-May-2003: TV news in Australia reported that Luke had been admitted to hospital in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh with a high temperature, suspected of having SARS. The rest of the team travelling with Luke was quarantined.

Monday 5-May-2003, morning Paul writes via email:

“Chest x-rays indicate that Luke is clear and now we are waiting on the results of his blood and urine samples to come in before Luke can be cleared of having SARS. We had a chat with Luke over the phone and he is improving.”

Monday 5-May-2003 (later in the day)
Luke is now out of hospital. It appears Luke had a sinus infection. The family would appreciate your prayers for Luke’s speedy recovery.

Luke writes after leaving hospital following his SARS scare:

“hey mum and everybody. i’m doin just fine, so i haven’t written too much, i haven’t had lots of chance to get to the internet. i hadn’t seen what pete did on the site but i just checked it out and thats real cool. its good that people could read it almost from the horses mouth.

i wasnt sleeping on a board, per se, it was just a really hard mattress. i haven’t gone out on any ministry yet since i got out, just been resting. i’m starting to feel back to my old self. i’ve just had no appetite or energy since i got out, but they are both slowly returning to normal. i tried to go out to the slums with my team a few days ago but almost passed out so i haven’t tried the return-to-action-before-i-was-ready move again, yet. but i’m feeling fine apart from blocked sinuses and the weakness. thanks so much to everyone for the prayers and support, it made a difference. i’m hoping to get back into full swing in the next couple of days. “
