An Update on Caleb

Written by Penny on June 6th, 2007

Dear Friends,

I wanted to let you know that Caleb is home! This happened fairly quickly on Thursday, we didn’t expect him to be discharged so soon and of course we were thrilled. Our insurance company, who as I have said, have taken such good care of us, flew Caleb, myself & a strong male nurse, home to Chiang Rai, last Thursday evening. Luke & Pennie who were helping such a lot to take care of him at the hospital so that Paul & I could return to our ministries, sometimes flew home on the same flight too. It was a tumultuous week last week, as the orthopedic doctor told us Caleb should should not sit up at all, only at a slight angle but not in a wheelchair (not at 90 degrees) for 3 months. That would have been quite another challenge, however 3 days later the spinal doctor said they had reviewed Caleb’s case and that he could sit up without any issues for his spine…. relief! :)

He is making the adjustments to being home, still not able to weight-bear for 3 months but he is coping well and we are getting into a good routine of how to accomplish the daily care ‘stuff’. Caleb will return for a check-up in Bangkok on July 6th, the day after his 17th birthday.

Your prayers make a difference for all of us. I will let you all know after my oncology appointment on June 18th, what the result of my tests are. Please pray for Luke & Pennie who have come to support us for 14 months in our ministry and family life. Also for Jaci & Zac who are in Australia & America and separated from the rest of us, it is a bit hard for all of us at times. And for Paul & I as we wait to see all that God has for our future.

We are so grateful for all your love & care,
Penny
