Streams in the Desert

Written by Penny on July 17th, 2007

Dear friends,

Thanks to so many of you who continue to pray for me/us. We are still in Bangkok, Caleb and I. It is Sunday evening and Caleb did get his plaster off plus his pin out of his right foot last Monday, as planned. Since then he has been in Bangkok and has been having intensive physiotherapy sessions, which have been really worthwhile and he is rebuilding his muscles and learning to walk again, still not able to 100% weight-bear but is walking very slowly with crutches. The plan is to return to Chiang Rai this Tuesday and continue more physiotherapy there. It has been very good for Caleb’s schooling that this is the long summer break and he is not missing school.

As for me, I continue to remain in the Word, where my strength comes from. God keeps speaking to me about trusting Him through this time. Last time I wrote an update I forgot to include the scriptures that have been encouraging me. If you go to our ministry website www.baannamjai.org and click on my most recent update you will see these scriptures added to my update there plus there are many more ways that God continues to confirm to me that He is truly in control.

Quite a while ago my friend Amy, gave me a copy of ‘Streams in the Desert’ which has been a blessing to me. As I read it again today, I was encouraged with the scripture from 1 John 5:4… it is because we have faith that we can be victorious in overcoming the world! (my paraphase). The author, Cowman writes: To trust in spite of the look of being forsaken; to keep crying out into the vast, whence comes no returning voice, and where seems no hearing; to see the machinery of the world pauselessly grinding on as if self-moved, caring for no life, nor shifting a hair-breadth for all entreaty, and yet to believe that God is awake and utterly loving; to desire nothing but what comes meant for us from His hand; to wait patiently, ready to die of hunger, fearing only lest faith should fail – such is the victory that overcometh the world, and is faith indeed.” I was deeply encouraged again today as I spent time with God, to trust “in spite of the look of being forsaken” – to trust what He has promised, to trust triumphantly over every doubt and fear. I am enjoying learning on this journey. It is my hope that you too will trust and continue in the battle with me/us.

Paul and I will travel to Australia again at the end of this month to see the doctor, we will write after that. We are believing for another miracle!

with love,
Penny
